Star Wars Battlefront Death Star DLC Free This Weekend

Star Wars Battlefront is celebrating the holidays by offering a free trial weekend of the Death Star DLC and some XP and credit rewards for logging in during the event.

Due to its lack of a single-player campaign, Star Wars Battlefront wasn’t exactly met with raving reviews when it launched in late 2015. Despite the lack of love from critics, Battlefront has been riding the Star Wars buzz and still maintains a decent player base. Although there are no plans to introduce a fleshed out story mode until the game gets a sequel, there has been a steady stream of multiplayer DLC to keep the community engaged.

Like most AAA games that launched in the last year or two, Battlefront was released alongside a companion season pass that includes a year’s worth of extra content. September’s contribution to that content was the Death Star DLC, which includes new maps set on the Death Star, as well as the multi-stage Battle Station mode. Gamers who own Battlefront, but haven’t purchased the DLC will have a chance to experience that content for free if they log in this weekend.

Electronic Arts announced that the Death Star Free Trial event would run from December 23-25 and includes all maps and modes released with the expansion. Battlefront fans are likely aware that the Death Star pack also added Chewbacca and Bossk to the game, but the event description doesn’t clarify if those characters are included in the trial weekend.

In addition to the new content, this trial also happens to overlap with the Battlefront Holiday Double Score event. Players can earn some bonus rewards during this event just for logging into the game between December 23-25. The event offers a one time 5,000 credit bonus for logging in, as well as double XP for all matches played during the event.

If the free content and the event get lapsed players drawn back in, then the recent Rogue One DLC will likely be a tempting purchase. The Rogue One: Scarif expansion released earlier this month and introduces characters and locations from the latest Star Wars film into the shooter. Hopefully, the next installment in the franchise includes these kind of film tie-ins at launch and is able to win over gamers who weren’t fans of the multiplayer focused 2015 installment in the iconic franchise.
