- Joe Graham, 29, of Connecticut, was paralyzed last summer in diving accident
- Graham thought he would be on a ventilator for the remainder of his life
- But his girlfriend’s pregnancy news spurred a recovery
With his therapists’ help, a man who was paralyzed last summer in a diving accident was able to propose to his girlfriend on bended knee.
Joe Graham, 29, from Connecticut, broke his neck and crushed vertebrae when he dove in a pool this July.
He was initially told by Gaylord Hospital that he would need to be on a ventilator for the rest of his life.
But the news from his girlfriend Tonya that she was pregnant with a girl gave him the motivation to wean himself off the device and recover some of the strength in his arms, Fox 25 reported.
On Thursday, Graham’s team of physical therapists helped him propose to Tonya.
In the video, which was posted to YouTube, Graham’s aides are seen coaching him as they get him into position.
They tell him to work on his core to get his head up and his shoulders back.
