DIY…Homemade Stress Relief Foot Soak

diy-homemade-foot-soak-feature3You’ll need (for quite a bit batch):
1 cup of sea salt
1 cup of Epsom salt
2 cups of Baking Soda
12 – 15 drops of your favorite Essential Oil(s). For this Stress Relieving Soak, I used Stress Away blend from Young Living (comes in the Starter Kit). I’ve also added Peppermint, Lavender, or even Lemon or Lime to my soak.

And here’s how quick it is to mix up:

Combine sea salt, epsom salt, and baking soda in a large bowl. Mix well.

Add 12-15 drops of your favorite Essential Oil or combination of oils. I love using Stress Away … for obvious reasons (as it’s name implies).

Peppermint … for a refreshing, cooling, and soothing soak. Peppermint also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Lavender .. for a relaxing soak.
Lime … also refreshing and invigorating
Pan Away … this blend of wintergreen and other oils will cools sore, tired feet.
Or some combination of any of these. Stress Away (my favorite choice) is a blend of Lavender, Lime, Cedarwood and several other oils that really do … melt away stress!

Using a spoon, mix the ingredients again to distribute the oil(s) throughout the mixture.

Once combined, store in a sealable container. When ready to use … pour about 1/4 cup of the salt/oil mixture into a bowl, add hot water (as hot as you can stand), and add feet!

Grab a good book or a fun magazine and soak for 15 minutes or up to 1 hour!

When finished … dry off feet and apply a high quality moisturizer.

Now for the WHY. Why is this foot soak so awesome (try it and you’ll know it feels amazing, but here’s some of the science behind it):

The epsom salt is the key ingredient in this soak. It helps pull toxins out of your body while adding magnesium into your body. It reduces overall inflammation, helps prevent or relieve migraines, eases stress, softens your skin, and much, much more.

Baking soda is good for exfoliating and eliminating odor. It will also help neutralize the chemicals in your water (especially important if you’re not using filtered water for your soak).

The oils you choose to add will also enhance the experience. Peppermint to cool, soothe, and invigorate. Lavender to relax. Tea Tree as a disinfectant, anti-fungal, and for other issues like athlete’s foot. Eucalyptus as a powerful anti-bacterial, anti-viral soak.

Even NOT knowing all the science, when you’re done with this soak, your feet (and entire body) will feel relaxed (and probably ready for a restful night’s sleep)!
